specializing in time series. Brillinger graduated in mathematics from U Toronto in 1959, gaining his PhD (supervised by Tukey) from Princeton U in 1961. After five years at LSE, Brillinger was appointed Professor of Statistics at UCB in 1969. He was the Wald Lecturer of the IMS in 1983 and its Neyman Lecturer in 2005. He was the COPSS Fisher Lecturer in 1991, and was elected FRSC in 1985. Awarded the Gold Medal of the SSC in 1992, he was its President in 2000. He was President of the IMS in 1994 and of TIES in 2006. In 2002 he was awarded the Parzen Prize.
