A non-profit US organization established in 1983 to promote an understanding of the practical and theoretical utilization of space. A major project since the 1980s has been to build and test an experimental solar sail. The Space Foundation supports space activities and education, hosting the annual National Space Symposium and International Space Symposium. Each year it presents four awards, including a Space Achievement Award (won in 2004 by the Ariane 4 launch team) and an Education Achievement Award, as well as inducting people, organizations, and companies into its Space Foundation Hall of Fame. The foundation's members include space professionals and the general public. It is located in South Pasadena, California.
