The linear velocity of a star expressed in kilometres per second as components along three axes. Any three axes can be chosen, but most commonly they are oriented towards the galactic centre, in the direction of the Galaxy’s rotation, and towards the north galactic pole. Alternatively, axes based on the directions of the equinox and celestial pole can be used.
