单词 proglacial
释义
proglacial

Geology and Earth Sciences
  • Applied to the area between a glacier and adjacent high ground. A proglacial lake is a body of water impounded in such an area and is often inferred for areas of Pleistocene glaciation from the evidence of strandlines, lake sediments, and overflow channels.

Geography
  • Situated in front of a glacier. A proglacial lake is formed between the terminus of the ice and the higher ground which is often in the form of a terminal moraine. Glacial Lake, Wisconsin, was a large proglacial lake. Glacial recession caused the ice dam to fail catastrophically and the lake drained rapidly (Clayton and Knox (2008) Geomorph. 93, 3).
