An arboreal, marsupial mammal (family Phascolarctidae) that has a stout body, no tail, a large head with fluffy ears, and a large nose. It is herbivorous, feeding mainly on eucalyptus leaves, a poor diet that it survives by sleeping for up to 20 hours a day. Koalas are found in open eucalypt woodland, only in coastal regions of Australia.
