A post-industrial society has five primary characteristics: the domination of service, rather than manufacturing, industry, the pre-eminence of the professional and technical classes, the central place of theoretical knowledge as a source of innovations, the dominating influence of technology, and levels of urbanization higher than anywhere else in the world.
