now working in the USA. Daubechies was educated at the Free U, Brussels, where she studied physics, gaining her doctorate in 1980 and joining the faculty in 1984. She has developed an international reputation for her work on wavelets. In 1987 she moved to AT&T Bell Laboratories in the USA. She has subsequently held posts at Rutgers U (1991), Princeton U (1993), and Duke U (2011). She was elected a Fellow of the AAAS in 1993 and of the NAS in 1998.
