单词 datum
释义
datum

Statistics
  • A single item of data.

Chemical Engineering
  • A reference or benchmark point from which other measurements are taken. For example, it may be an arbitrary elevation from which other elevations are measured. For fixed offshore installations, the datum is taken as the seabed and not the sea level, which, due to the tide, is variable.

Geology and Earth Sciences
  • Something that is known or assumed to be true. See also datum level; marker bed.

Geography
  • In geodesy and GIS, a geographic coordinate system covering the Earth’s surface, such as latitude and longitude, by which phenomena may be located. When loading a GIS, the correct datum for each map source should be used. When working with more than one map source at a time, all data must be converted to a common datum. The most frequently used datum is the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM).

Philosophy
  • A piece of evidence considered as fixed for the purpose in hand. What is taken as a datum may change as changes of theory and evidence arise. Something would be absolutely a datum if it were incorrigible, but many theorists of knowledge tend to be nervous about regarding anything as absolutely given, for although some things may serve as a basis for particular enquiries, this does not protect them from eventual challenge. See epistemology, protocol statements, verification; see also sense datum.
