DS-0 (Digital Signal Level Zero)

A 64 kbps channel, which is the fundamental building block of

the generic digital signal hierarchy. DS-0 is a voice grade channel designed to support voice digitized using pulse code modulation (PCM), or to support other data at a rate of up to 64 kbps. A DS-0 channel comprises eight-bit binary values transmitted at a rate of 8,000 per second (8 bits × 8,000 per second
