OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) A type of psychiatric anxiety disorder characterized by a person’s recurrent, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and related ritualistic and repetitive behaviors (compul-sions) such as counting, checking, cleaning, or handwashing in an attempt to neutralize the obsessions. The rituals, however, provide only temporary relief and, therefore, must be repeated, again and again.
