Unit, or given set of deposits, laid down as a result of either cyclic or rhythmic sedimentation. In a cyclic sequence the cyclothem would represent the whole succession, e.g. 1234321, whereas in a rhythmic sequence the cyclothem units would be repeated, e.g. 12341234. See cyclostratigraphy.
