单词 argument
释义
argument

Physics
  • 1. A sequence of logical propositions based on a set of premisses and leading to a conclusion.

    2. See complex number.

Space Exploration
  • The angular distance of an orbiting spacecraft or other body from the object being orbited. For example, the argument of periapsis is the angle between the periapsis (closest point of the orbiting body to the object it orbits) and the ascending node (point where the orbit intersects the plane of the ecliptic, moving from south to north of the ecliptic). The argument of perihelion is the angle between the ascending node and the perihelion (closest point between the Sun and an orbiting body).

Computer
  • A value or address passed to a procedure or function at the time of call. Thus in the Basic statement

    Y=SQR(X)

    X is the argument of the SQR (square root) function. Arguments are sometimes referred to as actual parameters.

Philosophy
  • To argue is to produce considerations designed to support a conclusion. An argument is either the process of doing this (in which sense an argument may be heated or protracted) or the product, i.e. the set of propositions adduced (the premises), the pattern of inference and the conclusion reached. An argument may be deductively valid, in which case the conclusion follows from the premises, or it may be persuasive in other ways. Logic is the study of valid and invalid forms of argument. See also induction, fallacies, proof.
