The depth in the ocean at which the rate of dissolution of aragonite is equal to the rate at which aragonite accumulates. In sea water, aragonite is less stable than calcite. Consequently, the ACD is shallower than the carbonate compensation depth (CCD). The ACD is typically at 2–3 km.
