The shadow-forming edge of a horizontal or vertical plate sundial. In such a sundial the style is a narrow edge aligned at the same angle to the horizontal as the dial’s latitude. Occasionally, where there is additional information on the dial’s face, such as to show the length of the day, there may be a small notch or nodus in the style. The shadow of this notch indicates the correct reading.
