A unit on European Space Agency (ESA) spacecraft that receives, decodes, and executes high-level commands for a particular instrument. If a problem occurs, it can automatically take actions to correct the fault. The ICU also autonomously checks the health of the instrument and monitors its parameters. The unit is part of an ESA spacecraft's distributed command and control function.
