A catalogue listing the positions and proper motions (hence PPM) of 378 910 stars across the whole sky for epoch 2000.0 published by the Astronomisches Rechen-Institut, Heidelberg. It was based on the same selection of stars as the AGK3, and superseded both the AGK3 and the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory Star Catalog. PPM was the first large star catalogue of positions and proper motions to be based on the FK5 reference system (the AGK3 and SAO catalogues used the FK4 system). PPM North, containing 181 731 stars north of declination −2°.5, was published in 1991. PPM South, a southern hemisphere extension containing 197 179 stars, was published in 1993. A supplement containing an additional 89 676 southern stars was published electronically in 1994.
