The technology (p. 36) uses living organisms such as plants, animals, yeast, and bacteria, and uses techniques such as genetic modification and recombinant DNA technology to improve production or produce new products. Examples include the production of beer, cheese, and wine, the development and production of vaccines, hormones, monoclonal antibodies, and antibiotics, as well as the production of energy and the recycling of waste.
