Asteroid 2201, a member of the Apollo group, discovered by the American astronomer Henry Lee Giclas (1910–2007) in 1947, then lost until 1979. Its diameter is 1.8 km. Oljato’s highly elliptical orbit (e = 0.7) is chaotic, its semimajor axis varying violently due to its many close approaches to Earth and Venus. Its current semimajor axis is 2.17 au, period 3.21 years, perihelion 0.62 au, aphelion 3.73 au, and inclination 2°.5. Oljato has a unique reflectance spectrum that does not resemble that of any other known asteroid, meteorite, or comet; it could be a dormant or extinct cometary nucleus. Oljato is associated with several meteoroid streams.
