A near-infrared survey undertaken with the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope (UKIRT) on Hawaii. It consisted of five parts: the Large Area Survey (LAS), covering 4000 square degrees of sky away from the galactic plane; the Galactic Plane Survey (GPS) of 1800 square degrees along the galactic plane; the Galactic Clusters Survey (GCS), imaging ten open star clusters and associations; the Deep Extragalactic Survey (DXS), targeting four areas of sky at high galactic latitudes to a K magnitude of 21.0; and the Ultra Deep Survey (UDS), imaging the same field as surveyed by the Subaru optical telescope and XMM-Newton satellite. The total area of sky covered by all surveys is about 7500 square degrees. UKIDSS began in 2005 May and was completed in 2012 May.
