A small deciduous tree belonging to one of 10–16 species of the genus Morus (family Moraceae), with fruits (mulberries) that are eaten raw, cooked, or as jams, cordials, wines, etc. Leaves, especially those of the white mulberry (M. alba), are the only food eaten by silkworm larvae (Bombyx mori). The trees occur naturally in warm-temperate regions of Eurasia and North Africa, and are widely cultivated.
