A United Kingdom 4.1-m wide-field reflector at an altitude of 2635 m at Paranal Observatory, Chile. VISTA began observations in 2009, surveying the sky at near-infrared wavelengths of 0.82–2.3 µm. The VISTA Hemisphere Survey (VHS) covers the entire southern sky down to 20th magnitude while other surveys will look at smaller regions in greater detail.
