The climate of a particular period in the geological past, before historical records or instrumental observations. Palaeoclimatology uses evidence from glaciers and ice sheets, geology, sediments, and tree rings; even the micromorphology of leaves (Haworth and McElwain (2008) Pal., Pal. & Pal. 262, 1–2) to determine Earth’s past climates.
