The smallest constellation of the zodiac, through which the Sun passes from late January to mid-February. Capricornus represents a goat with a fish’s tail. Its brightest star is Delta Capricorni (Deneb Algedi), an eclipsing binary that varies between magnitudes 2.8 and 3.0 every 24.5 hours. Alpha Capricorni (Algedi) is a wide but unrelated double of magnitudes 3.6 and 4.2.
