Major mountain-building episode which took place during the Lower Palaeozoic era. The orogeny affected Greenland, Ireland, Scotland, and Scandinavia, and was associated with the closure of the Iapetus Ocean between the old continents of Laurentia, Gondwana, and Baltica.
