A fish (family Ostraciidae) covered with scales fused to form a solid carapace, giving it a triangular, box-like shape with the eyes, mouth, fins and tails protruding, and a honeycomb pattern of surface markings. Trunkfish are slow-moving, feeding on plants and animals in shallow water. There are six genera with about 23 species found in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans, mainly in middle latitudes.
