An electron microscope that is used to explore the internal structure of mineral thin sections. The electron beam passes through the specimen and is focused by lenses on the other side to produce an image on a phosphor-coated plate. The microscope will resolve images to about 0.3 nm, achieving magnifications of up to 1 000 000 times.
