A volcanic peak with a roughly circular base, tapering to a point. Cones may be built solely of lava or of scoria, or of both. Parasitic cones form round smaller vents on the flanks of the volcano. See Frazzetta et al. (1983) J. Volc. & Geotherm. Res. 17.
