A NASA mission launched in 2018 August to study the Sun’s outer corona and the solar wind. It will be placed into an elliptical orbit around the Sun, using seven Venus flybys over a period of six years to approach as close as nine solar radii (around 6 million km) from the Sun’s surface. It is named after the American astrophysicist Eugene Newman Parker (1927– ).
