A sea eagle (family Accipitridae) native to North America and northern Mexico that is the national bird of the USA and is important in Native American culture. The sea eagle has a wingspan of 1.8–2.3 m, dark brown plumage with a white head and tail, and feeds opportunistically mainly on fish, but also on birds, mammals, and other animals. It perches, roosts, and nests in trees that are more than 60 m tall, close to sources of prey, and which provide good all-round visibility. Its nests are very large.
