He flew the world's second crewed spacecraft in orbit, Vostok 2, in August 1961, the first flight of more than one day (it lasted 25 hours, 18 minutes). During the 17.5 orbits of the Earth, he flew the spacecraft manually. After his flight he was assigned to the experimental Spiral spaceplane project that was eventually cancelled. Titov was selected as an cosmonaut in 1960 and resigned in 1970.
