A type of U Geminorum star that occasionally exhibits a standstill at intermediate light, but which otherwise behaves like an SS Cygni star; abbr. UGZ. A standstill normally begins on the decline from an outburst and may last for a few days or persist for years. During this state there is increased mass transfer between the components. The amplitude of normal outbursts is similar to those of the UGSS type (2–5 mag.), but the mean interval tends to be shorter (10–40 days).
