1. A method of presenting images on the screen of a TV or VDU in which the electron beam of the cathode-ray tube is swept across the screen in a horizontal pattern from top to bottom. The pattern of scanning lines is called a raster. See also television.
2. A method of sweeping a radar antenna beam either horizontally or vertically. Scanning is achieved mechanically by moving the entire antenna, or electronically using an array of antennas, a combination of which is selected to produce the desired beam shape and direction.
3. See electron-beam lithography.
