Arenaceous rock containing quartz and 25% or more of feldspar. The feldspar is easily destroyed during chemical change or transportation, implying that arkoses were deposited rapidly under fairly arid environmental conditions. Most were deposited near to land, probably in close proximity to a granitic area.
