Any area showing few or no magnetic anomalies. Magnetic quiet zones are commonly oceanic areas where magnetic anomalies appear to be absent because either the geomagnetic field did not change polarity during the formation of the oceanic crust or the original magnetization has been destroyed by the effects of thermal blanketing by later sediments.
