A p-n junction in which the impurity concentration changes abruptly from acceptors to donors (see semiconductor). In practice such a junction may be approximately realized when one side of the junction is much more highly doped than the other, i.e. a p⁺-n or n⁺-p junction. This is a one-sided abrupt junction.
