A Hirayama family of asteroids at a mean distance of 2.55 au from the Sun, differing from other main-belt asteroids in their high orbital inclination, about 15 °. Its members are mainly S type. The largest family members are (170) Maria, (472) Roma, (660) Crescentia, (695) Bella, and (714) Ulula, all with diameters of 30–50 km. Maria itself, an S-type asteroid of diameter 33 km, was discovered in 1877 by the Frenchman (Henri) Joseph (Anastase) Perrotin (1845–1904). Its orbit has a semimajor axis of 2.55 au, period 4.08 years, perihelion 2.39 au, aphelion 2.72 au, and inclination 14°.4.
