The operation of a field-effect transistor in the portion of its characteristic beyond the saturation voltage V_DS (sat) (see diagram), where V_DS is the drain voltage. The drain current is independent of the drain voltage in this region. Nonsaturated mode, sometimes known as triode-region operation, is operation of the device in the portion of its characteristic below saturation.
