The British Computer Society, a professional and learned society covering all branches of computing. It was founded in 1957 and granted a royal charter in 1984. It is a member of the Engineering Council UK and suitably qualified members can therefore be registered as Chartered Engineers. It publishes the Computer Journal, the first issue of which appeared in 1957. It is the UK member of IFIP.
