Clearing of the sky after the passage of a cold front, the cold air displacing the warm, moist air of the warm sector as a depression moves away. The process is usually marked by a veering of the wind (in the northern hemisphere, backing in the southern hemisphere), rising pressure, and a fall in temperature. The clearing of the cloud may be due to the subsidence of air in the cold sector behind the front.
