单词 Fokker–Planck equation
释义
Fokker–Planck equation

Physics
  • An equation in nonequilibrium statistical mechanics that describes a superposition of a dynamic friction (slowing-down) process and a diffusion process for the evolution of variables in a system. The Fokker–Planck equation, which can be used to analyse such problems as Brownian motion, can be solved using statistical methods and the theory of probability. It was derived by the Dutch physicist Adriaan Fokker (1887–1968) in 1914 and by Max Planck in 1917. Results obtained from the Fokker–Planck equation are in agreement with results obtained from the Langevin equation.

Astronomy
  • An equation from which the evolution of the orbits of stars in clusters or galaxies can be calculated. It includes descriptions of how stars orbit in the cluster or galaxy as a whole and how their orbits are affected by encounters with other stars. It is named after the Indonesian-born Dutch physicist Adriaan Daniel Fokker (1887–1972) and the German physicist Max Karl Ernst Ludwig Planck (1858–1947).

Chemistry
  • An equation in nonequilibrium statistical mechanics that describes a superposition of a dynamic friction (slowing-down) process and a diffusion process for the evolution of variables in a system. The Fokker–Planck equation, which can be used to analyse such problems as Brownian movement, is soluble using statistical methods and the theory of probability. It is named after the Dutch physicist Adriaan Fokker (1887–1968), who proposed it in 1914, and Max Planck, who discussed it in 1917.
