One of any number of small, often brightly coloured arboreal birds that feed on insects caught on the wing or on the ground. There are 322 species of Old World flycatchers in the family Muscicapidae, found in Eurasia, Africa, and Australasia, and more than 400 species of tyrant flycatchers (family Tyrannidae) found in North, Central, and South America.
