Fisher was co-founder and first President of the Econometrics Society. His academic life was spent at Yale U, where he studied mathematics and then economics, gaining his PhD (the first in economics at Yale) in 1891. He then joined the mathematics faculty before moving into the social sciences, becoming Professor of Political Economy from 1898 until his retirement in 1935.
