The deformation of glacier ice in response to stress, by a process involving slippage within and between ice crystals. The rate of creep is dependent on both stress and temperature. When the shear stress is doubled, the strain rate increases eight times, and a rise in temperature from −22 °C to 0 °C involves a ten-fold increase in strain rate.
