单词 fall
释义
fall

Astronomy
  • A meteorite that has actually been seen to fall and has been recovered at the place of impact. In many cases the meteorite is recovered immediately or very soon after falling, and is therefore relatively free of terrestrial contamination and weathering. Sometimes, however, the meteorite is not recovered until months or years after its observed fall. Only about 4% of known meteorites were seen to fall. See also Find.

Geography
  • A form of mass movement in which fractured rock and soil separates into blocks and falls away from the parent slope. A fall starts with the detachment of soil or rock from a steep slope along a surface on which little or no shear displacement takes place. The material then descends mainly through the air by falling, bouncing, or rolling (Varnes in R. Schuster and R. Krizek, eds 1996).
