A fruit that incorporates, in addition to the ovary wall, other parts of the flower, such as the receptacle. For example, the fleshy part of the strawberry is formed from the receptacle and the ‘pips’ on the surface are the true fruits. See also composite fruit; pome; sorosis; syconus.
