The direction in which one object lies relative to another on the celestial sphere, such as the two components of a double star or the axis of rotation of the Sun or a planet. Position angle is measured in degrees from north via east, although for the axial inclination of the Sun it is measured positive (+) to the east and negative (−) to the west (see diagram).
