Any case in which a physician is involved in assisting a patient to terminate his or her own life, for instance by providing them with an appropriate drug, or other means. It differs from euthanasia in that although the physician facilitates the patient’s death, he or she does not kill the patient. The moral and political problem is to decide to whom, and on what grounds, such assistance should be legally available.
