1. (Littorina littorea) A small, edible sea snail (family Littorinidae) found in the intertidal zone of rocky shores of the North Atlantic. It has a thick, roughly oval, sharply pointed, grey or brown shell up to 3 cm high and 1 cm wide. It feeds mainly on algae.

2. A perennial, evergreen herb or subshrub of the genus Vinca (family Apocyanaceae) with trailing stems that often strike (take root) where they touch the ground and flowers with five violet, occasionally white petals. There are six species native to Europe, south-western Asia, and north-western Africa, two of which, V. major and V. minor, are widely cultivated for ornament and as ground cover.
