A nova-like variable that occasionally shows a sudden drop in brightness, reminiscent of a Z Camelopardalis star with an exceptionally long standstill; however, these stars never show the rise above standstill that is seen in Z Camelopardalis stars after their drop to quiescence, nor any other form of outburst activity. Because their light-curves look like an inverted version of dwarf nova light-curves, VY Sculptoris stars are sometimes known as anti-dwarf novae.
