A focal position for a reflecting telescope, to which light is reflected along the hollow declination axis or altitude axis of its mounting. At the Nasmyth focus, the image position remains stationary and heavy equipment can be used without affecting the balance of the telescope. The configuration was devised by the Scottish engineer James Nasmyth (1808–90).
